Traditional Signwriting & Narrowboat Painting

Reintroducing forgotten crafts since 1998

Cheshire Brush 2005-2015My name is Carl Tickle, I have been a Traditional Signwriter, Narrowboat Painter and Master Gilder since 1998, operating out of Woolston, Warrington, Cheshire.

I create beautiful hand painted signs and traditional hand painted narrowboats for businesses, organisations and private clients across the UK and around the world.

I specialize in custom paint jobs for a variety of applications. We have custom painted many challenging and creative pieces of art, from cars, vans, narrowboats to sports equipment and apparel. I use only the highest-quality 1-shot enamel paint and produce original graphic designs, so you will be proud to display the work.
I stand by every custom paint job, no matter how big or small.

I hope you enjoy the website, why not look at the services I offer such as gilding, gold, silver & bronze leaf honours boards, airbrush graphics, pin striping, narrowboat painting, traditional and modern sign writing, shop fronts, banners, vintage/classic trucks, chalkboards, vinyl lettering and window displays.

Traditional Signwriting

I have worked on the Grand National Honours Board at Aintree Racecourse and I am the main contractor at Haydock Park Racecourse where I visit to complete the gold leaf honours board after every race.
Over the years my other commissions included Northwich narrowboats, Warrington, Lee Park and Portal Golf Club, the National Trust and many stately homes including Inglewood Manor and Statham Lodge.

A recent commission was for the Lawn Tennis Association’s Championships at Wimbledon.

Client Testimonials

Hi Carl, I would just like to say how pleased we are with the scroll you have done at our church. Your artwork almost glows, especially the gold leaf lettering and I’m sure it hasn’t looked as good as that since the chapel was originally built in 1887.
